Happy Birthday to our Superhero!!!

Happy Birthday Daddy!!!

Wes turned 35 this year...and I wanted to make it special.
The day started with me getting up at 4am to make him homemade doughnuts.
Thanks to Annalee, we had a wonderful breakfast together.
Here is the recipe:

INGREDIENTS:
vegetable oil
canned biscuits
powdered sugar
vanilla flavoring
milk (not pictured)

DIRECTIONS:

pour a few inches of oil into a pot and heat on high.

tear each biscuit in half.

stretch both halves as long as they will go without breaking.

shape into a cirle pinching the ends together.

stretch out the doughnut shape a bit.

drop a couple "tester" doughnuts into the hot oil.

you will know the oil is ready when the dough starts to sizzle and turn brown.

at that point, turn the oil to medium heat and add more dough.

cook each until brown begins to show from the other side, then flip over using tongs or a spoon.

cook the other side until done, then use tongs to place on paper towels while cooling.

meanwhile mix up the "icing." mix 3/4C powdered sugar, 2T milk, and 1t vanilla in a bowl. you can double or triple the amounts depending on how many cans of biscuits you use. the mixture will be slightly runny.

drizzle over the doughnuts while still warm and serve immediately.

We loved the doughnuts and will be fixing them again soon!

This year our theme for Wes' birthday was Superman...because he is our real life hero!

First I made shirts for the boys to wear:
The shirts I found at Wal-Mart, it is actually a pajama shirt.

Then we made his gift...so easy (thanks to this website) and he said it was his favorite gift he has ever gotten!
I got a box...you can use anything and printed these labels like it had come in the mail.

Then gathered all his favorite snacks and labeled them as if they were for superman.
It was fun for the boys to help and went along great with our theme.
Then I made the banner and set everything up.

At HEB we found the Superman plates, napkins, and balloon.
But they also had the card which was for a Dad's birthday and the boys could record a message!

The boys in their shirts and the shorts that came with them...they are really boxer briefs.

One of my friends had given Wes some wooden kits to do with the boys, so they worked on that...
while I started dinner.

Oh, I made the boys each an S to put on their capes they already had.

This is what Wes had for dinner... 5 pounds of shrimp!

He was one happy camper!

Since we were going to have cake the next night with my family, Wes just wanted ice cream. But I made these chocolate waffle bowls to put our ice cream in.

They were really yummy.
Find the recipe here. And you don't need a waffle cone maker!

Happy Birthday Wes!
We love you so much!

Thank you for being the best daddy and husband, we are so very blessed by you!
I love you very much!!!
